ASTM B865 Bar is a precipitation-hardenable material of copper-nickel and it combines the superb corrosion resistance characteristics possessed by Monel 400, but the big plus with it is that it has greater hardness and strength. As compared to Alloy 400, Monel K500 Round Bar has roughly double the tensile strength and thrice the yield strength. Also, Alloy K500 can be strengthened even more, by cold working, before carrying out precipitation hardening. The welding of Alloy K500 can be done by the process of gas-tungsten-arc welding.

ASTM B865 UNS N05500 Round Bar has a Chemical Composition of Fe 0.5 – 2, C 0.25 max, Ni 63.00 min, Mn 1.5 max, Cu     27.00 – 33.00, Si 0.5 max and S 0.010 max. K500 Monel Equivalent Grades are UNS N05500 and WERKSTOFF NR. 2.4375. The Density of K500 Monel is 8.44 g/cm3 and its Melting Point is 2460 °F (1350 °C). Monel K500 has an Elongation of 20%. The Yield Strength of K500 Monel is 1,15,000 Psi (790 MPa) and its Tensile Strength  is 1,60,000 Psi (1,100 MPa). Monel K500 is an alloy of nickel-chromium and to this has been added small amounts of iron, aluminum, columbium, titanium and molybdenum.

ASTM B865 is a Standard Specification for Precipitation Hardening Nickel-Copper-Aluminum Alloy (UNS N05500) Bar, Rod, Wire, Forgings, and Forging Stock

ASTM B865 specification covers UNS N05500 nickel-copper-aluminum alloy rounds, squares, hexagons, rectangles, and forgings and forging stocks manufactured by either hot working or cold working, and cold-worked wire. ASTM B865 material should conform to the required mechanical properties in both aged and unaged conditions. Precipitation hardening is accomplished by holding the material at a high temperature, followed by furnace cooling and then air cooling.
