Super Duplex Round Bar is designed to provide better corrosion resistance, particularly chloride stress corrosion and chloride pitting corrosion, and higher strength than standard austenitic stainless steels such as Type 304 or 316. A 22%Cr duplex stainless steel round bar has a minimum 0.2% proof strength of some 450N/mm2 and Duplex steel bar, a superduplex grade a minimum of 550N/mm2. Duplex steel round bar can be divided into three main groups; lean duplex round bar, 22%Cr duplex steel hex bar and 25%Cr superduplex round bar, and even higher alloyed, hyperduplex grades have been developed, this division being based primarily on the alloy’s alloying level, eg in terms of ‘PREN’ (pitting resistance equivalence number), a measure of the alloy’s resistance to pitting corrosion. Super Duplex Steel Bar PREN is calculated from a simple formula: PREN = %Cr + 3.3%Mo +16%N and an allowance for W is sometimes made, having a factor of 1.65. A duplex stainless steel round bar has a PREN less than 40; a superduplex hex bar a PREN between 40 and 45 and hyperduplex round bar a PREN above 45, whilst the lean grades typically have lower nickel and hence lower price.

Duplex Steel Bar Grades
There are quite a number of duplex steel bar grades and some of these are DX2202, 2205, 2304, 2507, 2101 LDX, RDN 903, Zeron 100, 2205 and Ferrinox 255/Uranus 2507Cu. The Chemical Composition of duplex stainless steel varies, depending upon the grade of the duplex stainless steel. One of the most commonly used types of duplex stainless steel is Duplex 2205 stainless steel. Duplex 2205 stainless steel is used a lot in applications and industries that have the need for superb strength and very good resistance to corrosion. Every 3 years or so, a conference is held on the subject of duplex stainless steels.
Duplex Steel Round Bar Applications
The whole idea behind the creation of duplex stainless steels, was to come out with a material that had a near to equal mixture of austenite and ferrite. Duplex steel round bar applications are many and it includes the use of these round bars in power generation, chemical equipment, heat exchangers, off-shore oil drilling companies, specialty chemicals, pharmaceutical equipment, gas processing, condensers, pulp and paper industry, petrochemicals, sea water equipment, etc. Duplex stainless steels show good toughness, even up to temperatures of minus 80 degrees Celsius.
