What is Monel Cladding?
The answer to what is Monel cladding is the cladding done of Monel Metal, on structures of carbon steel, for the prevention of corrosion to take place. It has the capability of resisting many agents, including seawater that flows rapidly. Robert Crooks Stanley, was a metallurgist, who first created Monel Alloy. In the year 1905, the International Nickel Company, patented Monel. Monel gets its name from the person who was the director of the International Nickel Company, at that time. Later on, Robert Crooks Stanley went on to become the director of this company.

With reference to Monel density lb/in3 & hardness, the density would differ, based on the type of alloy it is. With reference to the hardness, there are 6 different types of Monel grade, so the hardness would differ depending on the type of alloy. As these alloys are very resistant to corrosion from different types of chemicals, they are in big demand for use in all kinds of equipment used in chemical plants. This metal is also in big demand in the aerospace industry. Monel metal is an alloy of mainly nickel (up to 67%), as well as copper, to which has been added small quantities of silicon, manganese, iron and carbon. Monel and its alloys are used in a wide range of applications and industries all over the world, for various reasons like: 1) They have a high mechanical strength. 2) They cost relatively low. 3) They have superb ductility. 4). They are resistant to acids and alkalis. 5) They can be easily brazed, soldered and welded.
